This vintage portrays a sweeter, fragrant and more floral expression than its citrusy predecessor. As the layers unravel, aromas of honeysuckle, orange blossom and sandalwood are rounded with lemon meringue pie, tart McIntosh apple and a minerality that is lightly misted with the terpenes of expensive perfume and a spicy dash of incense. This wine acts a wonderful palate cleanser as lively and fresh flavours of honeycrisp apple flesh, overripe pineapple and underripe mango really fill the palate and get into every little nook and cranny. The palate is round and then long, with a fine chalky and persistent finish.
“Chicken of the Sea!” What an ideal wine for white fish, scallops and prawns. Crab cakes and fresh ceviche are also delicious choices. If you like tacos, try fish or ahi tuna with mango salsa, pulled pork with pickled onion and gherkins, or shredded chicken with grilled pineapple. Mmmmmm, poke bowls just came to mind…
