2021 Broken Granite Gewürztraminer

More fruity than floral, the long-awaited new vintage of our Broken Granite Gewürztraminer glistens with a delicate hue of lime green. Intense tropical fragrances of papaya, peach and lychee, reminiscent of a fruit cup packed in syrup, perfumed with just a delicate kiss of nutmeg and rose water. The flavours perfectly mirror the aromas, enriched with a subtle nuance of ground coriander seed. Described as ‘pear-shaped’, this wine really expands to fill the palate with round, rich viscosity and a long lingering dry finish.
This fruit comes from Block 12, where there is an abundance of broken granite in the soil, yielding grapes with more concentrated flavours. We implemented a slower pressing program (6 hours), with minimal pressure increases at each step. The juice was quite smooth, unctuous and rich, with very little phenolic extraction. It was fermented in a combination of stainless steel and oak (about 45% in 2-year old French oak barrels). The barrels were stirred once a week until mid-January, at which time the stainless steel and barrel components were blended together for bottling. This is definitely a wine to cellar for many years.
An international culinary adventure awaits! Thai cuisine, Indian curries, cured meats and semi-firm lightly smoked cheeses, and our favourite…Beer Can Chicken! Not hungry and just need to relax? Take it into the bathtub or hot tub!
